Childhood Cancer Campaign

Through the unique CCC program of Optimist International, Optimists have become champions for children dealing with cancer. The focuses of the program are:

OI has pledged $920,000 over five years to underwrite a research fellowship in pediatric oncology/hematology at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. Optimist Clubs throughout the world are seeking donations and conducting fundraisers specifically for this OI Foundation project.

Cans for Cancer

The Timonium Optimists collect aluminum cans for recycling as part of an MDSD district-wide fundraising project for the district’s Childhood Cancer Campaign Foundation. Each club year, the Zones across the district have a friendly rivalry going to see which area can raise the most money from recycling. The Timonium Optimists and the rest of Zone 9 have been strong supporters of the recycling effort.
Together, District Optimists have collected more than ten tons of cans since the program began in 2004. We are fortunate that a benefactor matches the total from recycling, dollar for dollar. So far, MDSD Optimists have raised more than $23,000 to support the OI cancer research pledge and to assist the families of children who visit the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Childhood Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins for treatment.
If you have cans to contribute to the cause, please contact the Timonium can chairman below to make arrangements to deliver them or have them picked up.

Believe in Tomorrow Children’s House at St. Casimir’s

The Timonium Optimists have supported this residence for families of children undergoing treatment at Johns Hopkins even before it opened in spring 2006 with contributions of money to help furnish apartment kitchens and with manpower to help make final preparations. Optimist support is recognized on plaques throughout the house.

The 2006 Timonium Optimist raffle of Ravens season tickets resulted in the anonymous winner contributing the two seats to all regular season home games to Believe In Tomorrow for use by families residing at St. Casimir’s.
