A Day on the Farm for about 114 P.A.L. Center kids came off without a hitch. Set-up had been accomplished the day before and early on that Friday morning—a day when public schools were closed to students. The weather was warm and sunny.
The youngsters arrived around 9:30 a.m. in vans from seven P.A.L centers, and they stayed until about 2:30 p.m. Each group was accompanied by staff from their center. The kids were kept busy with games, crafts and hayrides, 4-H animals to see and fire and rescue equipment to explore. The Optimists served lunch—everyone sat on hay bales to eat. Baltimore County police officers, 4-H members and volunteer firefighters also took part in the event.
More than a dozen Timonium Optimists volunteered their time before, after and during the event to set up, clean up, and to help with games and serving lunch. Special thanks go to Dick and Mickey Price for coordinating and hosting P.A.L. Farm day on their Phoenix farm.
Positive Results
Feedback from all involved—especially the kids—is so positive that the Timonium Optimists plan to continue this project!
The P.A.L. Board awarded the club a certificate of appreciation for co-sponsoring the event.
